The trouble with paint

Me and paint really have something going together, I mean, we have a natural attraction to each other.

Or in other words, I can't even take the lid off a tin of paint without it getting all over me! If I am using a roller I get smothered in tiny flecks. If I am using a brush I usually end up with it in my hair. And why is it that when you have made a mistake and you try to fix it, you end up with a bigger mess than when you started?!

These statements are right whether you are home decorating or crafting. You can always guarantee that the door bell or the phone will go just when you have got to a tricky bit that is the point of no return! Then when you have dealt with the caller, your brush has gone dry or you have put it in your mouth and absentmindedly brushed past the wall with it, creating a new abstract look for your hallway. More cleaning up. Then, when cleaning that bit, you realise how dirty the rest of the wall is and you now have an area that although small is now a lot lighter than the rest of the wall and draws the eye immediately, so you start to clean the wall.

Where do you stop? At the corner? How far up? I usually have to stop when I can't reach any higher, and my theory is that if I can't reach it, no-one will notice it! (that theory goes for dusting too!!)

So, wall washed and clean, you stand back to admire it...and knock the water bowl over! Finally, water mopped, wall wiped, brush cleaned, phone off the hook with a pillow over it so you can't hear that annoying wail it makes when it wants to be but on the hook again, and you are ready to start painting again. You sit at your table, take a deep breath and load your brush. Bliss.

10 mins later you are so absorbed in your work that you don't notice until it is too late that you have just drunk your paint water instead of your juice!

Some days you wonder why you even got up!
