A Walk in the Woods

In our high stress world there is nothing better than having a bit of time to ourselves. Here is a phrase that I keep hearing more and more often lately, and that is that we are "time poor."

We don't have any "quality time" any more. Every so often we have to try and make that time don't we?

Occasionally my husband will suggest a walk in the woods, and after the normal chorus of groans and "do we have to?" from the kids (and me, if it is too cold or wet!), we all pile into the car and go off to the woods. My middle son always moans the most and then won't admit he loved every minute of it. Well, possibly not the time that he fell in a really big, muddy puddle at the furthest point from the car on a particularly yukky day, but that is another story!

A walk in the woods can be fun for everyone, and we all get something different from it. (I get the muddy clothes and boots to clean for example!)

When you are wandering through the trees, looking upwards at the umbrella of branches above, it can become a really magical place. I love it when the pine cones fall and we all have a bag each to collect them (for spraying gold for Christmas of course! - once I have dried and de-bugged them! Yuk! )

Freddie collects leaves for his 'collection'. (Bless him, he has never really realised that these 'collections' tend to disappear as soon as they start to smell!)

Todd likes to find all sorts of odd bits for his scenery making for him Warhammer models and Charlie likes finding anything he can climb, jump off and frighten me half to death!

I am always on the lookout for unusual stones and rocks for future projects. These tend to stay in the bags and clutter up the shed until my husband gets fed up with them and tries to throw them away, followed by shouts from me - "but I'm going to use those!"

And then home again, to dry clothes and a hot drink (or one with ice in, I don't mind!) It does make you feel better and slightly more ready to face the rest of the week! Well, that's the theory anyway!!
