Rock Painting - Part 1

Various stones - painted with flowersYou may have read my articles on stone tumbling/polishing.  Well, I suppose it was because of that interest that I picked up a book in a local bookshop about painting flowers on rocks by Lin Wellford.

This lady has a lot to answer for!  As soon as I saw the book I just had to buy it!

I have put this book (and her others) on my Books section - under rock painting - clicking this link opens up a new window.

The flowers in the picture shown right have give you some indication of what painting on rocks is about.  I have painted other stones, and the great thing is you can use any colours you want to.  Unfortunately this picture did not turn out too well as the sun was shining brightly at the time and I had used the wrong varnish, but you get the basic idea.

These painted stones can be used indoors and outdoors - colour in your garden all year round.

A painted paving slabThe trouble is, you never stop looking for new ideas and start to use your ideas on variations of themes.

One example in the book is a flower basket painted onto a rock.  Now, I wanted to try something like this and whilst in my brother's garden, noticed he had some round paving slabs - doing nothing!  What a waste - so I 'borrowed' one of them and the result is as shown on the second picture.

I am by no means an expert artist, I just love messing around with different types of paint and painting itself.  Go on, if I can do it - so can you!
