April 5th - Clarecraft, Bury St Edmunds
I thought I was going on a visit to see the fairies. Well, not only did I visit 'The Faerie Realm' I saw much more at the Clarecraft workshop in Bury St Edmunds.
It was on a day out organised by a local club/pub that we all went off to see how the figures are made at Clarecraft.
At the Visitors Centre we were warmly greeted. We were given a complete tour of all the workshops and were talked though each of the stages, from inception to the final product.
The picture left shows the third stage in the making of all the figures which are all hand made and hand painted.
Clarecraft, although I had not known this, also makes the famous characters of Terry Pratchet's Discworld.
The picture right shows one of the many figures being hand painted.
The staff at Clarecraft are thanked for giving us such a warm welcome. As can be seen by this photograph, everybody seems to enjoy their work and are happy to chat about what they are doing, even on occasion going out of their way to assist in answering our questions.
The competition prize on offer at the time of writing this article came from the Clarecraft 'Myths and Maidens' collection.
